In March 2023, RollKall added new rules on how to decide which officer should be assigned to a job if more than one officer applied to the job, but all applicants meet the decision criteria. This feature gives administrators more control to ensure fairness in job assignments.
When officers apply to jobs that make assignments based on "by number of hours" or "by number of jobs," they are evaluated against other officers that apply for the same position during the sign up period. Occasionally, multiple officers who have worked the same number of hours or jobs will apply to the same position, creating a tie.
Administrators can now choose how this tie is resolved. The default setting is "first come first served," meaning that, with all other criteria being equal, the first officer who applied for the position during the sign up period will be assigned to the job.
Alternatively, administrators can use officer seniority to break the tie. Seniority is determined by the officer's start date at the agency (which is verified when the officer signs up for the RollKall platform). With the seniority tiebreaker, the officer who has been at the agency the longest will be assigned to the job.
The tiebreaker rules can be changed by an administrator in the agency settings page, on the "Officer Approval & Assignment Rules" section.
